The children and staff have been enjoying exploring flowers in star room this halfterm. The children enjoyed painting their own poppy pictures for Remembrance day and using lots of different media to experiment how to create a variety of flowers. The children then decided to create a flower garden which fairies have come to live in!
Each week we will be providing the children and their families the opportunity to complete a maths challenge.
All the challenges will be fun activities which will help support your child's mathematical development.
We really hope you enjoy these activities and we would love to hear and see all about the fun you've had!
You can find our weekly challenges every week in nursery, here's this weeks.
Building dens is a great way to involve children in measuring and mathematical problem solving.
Encourage children to think of the things they will need, making decisions about how many people should fit inside. Offer some advice on joining materials such as bulldog clips/pegs or tape.
If possible take photos of the different stages of building to talk about later.

This Week in the
We started our session by reviewing last weeks learning and then we had a story and some fruit to prepare us for the day ahead. This week we focused on building homes for the lovely creatures of the wood, using the Gruffalo story for some inspiration.
Then we headed into the woods and played some group games to encourage a feeling of community and to develop our social skills. We loved playing the “Gorilla Bogey” game.
Next we found lots of animals living in the woods, both naturally and maybe, not so naturally! We decided to help them and build them some homes. Some of us really enjoyed watching them move around and identifying them. This helps to develop our feelings of empathy towards other creatures.
We then put up a shelter together and had our lunch. This is a special time for us in the woods and is a big social event!!
After lunch we explored how we could make swings. We tied lots of knots and made rope bridges and different kinds of swings. We then sat down to review our day, talking about our feelings and things we enjoyed.
A little look at what we've been up to.
